And while the number of chinook expected back to the Lewis and Kalama is predicted to be low, most other salmon producing tributaries will offer decent to excellent opportunity and a two-per-day limits on hatchery, fin-clipped, salmon.
For the bank-bound angler this means using enough weight to get your drift fishing outfit near bottom. This method can make pulling limits easy when fishing big, deep, perhaps slow-moving holes where salmon can collect in large numbers. Often the most productive fishing methods for those fishing from drift or power boat include back-bouncing bait or bait-wrapped Mag Lip, FlatFish or Kwikfish. The boat fishing method that dominates the terminal fisheries within Drano Lake and at the Wind River mouth is to rig a couple of rods with a herring or prawn spinner in combination with a flasher, like a 6- or 8-inch Fish Flash, close to the boat and a couple of additional rods with diving plugs trailing to feet behind your craft.

Both the short wavelength and strong current can be pretty demanding, while parking is sparse and costly. The launch is narrow, rocky and slippery, with lots of current and swell. Getting in and out is a bit easier in the gravel bay just east of here. All Hood River spots on the Oregon side sit on the inside of the river bend so conditions are a bit more manageable.
